Pilgrimage day 2

Today began in San Antonio as we departed from the catholic worker house. We stopped for breakfast at Lulu’s (THREE POUND CINNAMON ROLLS), before walking around the Japanese tea gardens and taking some time to be still and write.

The next several hours were spent in the van. We learned the hard way the reality of desolate Texas deserts when we ate lunch at 3 pm in Fort Stockton (where no one was in a hurry).

We made it to Carlsbad and had some time to rest (from all that driving). After that we headed into Carlsbad caverns park to walk around and watch the bats. Despite our best efforts we are eating dinner at the pizza hut since we’ve realized that everything closes here at 9. Except the pizza hut. (and people think there’s nothing to do in Waco.)

Pilgrimage day 1

Today we started in Waco, and wound up in San Antonio. On the way we stopped in Round Rock for donuts, and Buc-ees for, um, scenery?

Our day included visiting several Spanish Missions, talking about church and state, eating good food (duh), walking around, seeing the San Fernando cathedral, and staying the night at the Catholic Worker house. Friends, they know how to do hospitality.

Tomorrow we will spend the first part of the morning in SA, then onward to Carlsbad, NM in enough time to see the bats.
