Prayer for a New Year – Morning Prayer 30 December 2012

God of our past
God of our present
God of our future
we are facing a new year.

In these days of Christmas, it is easy to dwell in celebration, and delight in the joy of every good and perfect gift. We give thanks for your continued presence with us in the days and weeks and months of the past year.  You have held us through transition and through stability, through illness and through healing, through laughter and grieving.  We give thanks for the memories made and shared as we reflect on the gift of a new year.

You are the God of our yesterdays and our tomorrows. We know that some roads will feel easy, and some burdens light.  We also know that other journeys feel difficult, scary, even impossible. Guide our feet, our hearts, our spirits that we move forward not in fear, but in your perfect grace and peace.

As we look ahead to the New Year and speak of resolutions and goals, give us courage toImage take risks; give us laughter and lightness of heart.  May we hold the gift of your son, bearing with us peace, joy, hope, and love into our future. May our new year’s resolution be to share your presence through our lives with the world.

May we come to know you in the fullness of community in the year ahead. May we move in the certainty of your sustained presence among us – as in the days before, and in the days to come.

God who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, we ask for deeper, truer faith in your will.  We ask all this in your son’s name, and we join our voices with him in prayer:

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
